Lush, beautiful parks abound in this area, as there are a total of 123 parks and some are expanding all the time. The Louisville City of Parks project is one of the largest park expansion in the United States, adding 4,000 acres of park land and a 100 mile loop around the city.
The Waterfront Park offers a wide expanse of green space at the Ohio River and the beautiful newly renovated Big Four Pedestrian bridge over the river.
Another Louisville jewel is the Frederick Law Olmsted Parks and Parkways. Olmsted, who designed New York’s Central Park, designed a network of parks and parkways for the city of Louisville in the early 20th Century. These historic parks are located all through city and offers residents green space and respite from the stresses of the day.
