Our Elected Leaders

The Board of Trustees is the final authority of the church on all questions of policy, long-range planning, personnel, capital improvements, finances, and building use and maintenance. The Board oversees church operations and accomplishes its activities through the use of staff and Church ministries and committees. The Board consists of six trustees plus the secretary and treasurer, all of whom are elected by the congregation.  All trustees must be active members of the Church.

Committees and Teams

There are several committees and teams that report directly to the Board:

Ministerial Support Team:

The congregation strives to support ministers in ways that help our shared ministry thrive. The Board maintains a policy about the formation, membership, and dissolution of ministry support teams. The congregation recognizes that ministers will require different types of congregational support both at different parts of their careers and in different ministry role.

Personnel Team:

The Personnel Team is a small team that does work around personnel matters to support the work of the church as needs arise. This work may include, but is not limited to, assisting in hiring processes, reviewing and updating the personnel policy manual, researching changes in employment laws, etc…

Stewardship and Fundraising Team:

The Stewardship and Fundraising team is a small team that does the work of fundraising in the church. This includes an annual stewardship campaign, annual auction, and other fundraisers throughout the church year.

Media and Technology Team:

Office Volunteers, Office Administrator, Operations Coordinator and content creators all play a role in a successful communications strategy. The Board in conjunction with the Minister may wish to designate a small team to work with the staff who oversee communications functions of the church. Typical small team work might include updating policies about website content, social media content, emailed announcements, newsletters, and other communications channels. The goal is to maintain a secure centralized messaging system that promotes well informed members and reaches out to the community effectively.

Safety Team:

This task teams assists the Operations Coordinator with matters involving the safe keeping of the people, property and campus.

Finance Committee:

The Finance Committee oversees and directs the financial affairs of the Church. The committee establishes church fiduciary policy and ensures transparency, auditing, reporting and other oversight.

Resources Committee:

The Resources Committee supports the operations of the church, specifically the ongoing upkeep of the physical plant and grounds in conjunction with the Operations Coordinator. The Committee coordinates the resources that logistically accomplish the work of the church and includes a variety of support teams such as House and Grounds, Churchyard Friends and Churchyard Tenders, Aesthetics, Kitchen Maintenance, Archives, Memorial and Scattering Gardens, and Solar Array Project. Endowment Board and Nominating Committee

The purpose of the Endowment Board, also known as the First Unitarian Church of Louisville Endowment Fund Board of Trustees (“Endowment Board”), is to operate the Endowment Fund. The members are nominated, serve and can be removed as per the Trust Fund Document, which can be found under “Governance” (accessible to members only).  The Nominating Committee is responsible directly to the congregation. It recommends to the congregation nominees for the Board of Trustees, Secretary, Treasurer and Endowment Committee, as well as other positions as requested by the Board.
