Interfaith Relations
Unitarian Universalism is an independent cohesive religion, but we also recognize the benefits of respectful interfaith dialogue, both in service of our goal of a peaceful world community and to enrich our individual searches for truth and meaning. In addition, we acknowledge that we often share particular values and goals with other faith traditions, and we amplify our effectiveness when we work together.
Members of First Unitarian maintain close connections with Interfaith Paths to Peace, with Citizens of Louisville Organized and United Together (CLOUT), and with the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
Other interfaith activities include participation in the Louisville Festival of Faiths, support for Kentucky Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, ministerial support for Faith Leaders for Fairness, co-sponsorship of Cultivating Connections and other interfaith events, and support for religious communities (such as the Jewish community, the Muslim community, and the Sikh community) that have been the targets of hatred or violence.
Respectful interfaith relations is yet another way First Unitarian Church lives its belief that “we need not think alike to love alike.” If you are a UU interested in exploring our interfaith relations work, or if you are part of a non-UU faith community interested in collaborative action, please contact [email protected].
