We believe religion is not something to be given to a person, but is a journey of faith to be nurtured and encouraged as a person’s life unfolds. At First Unitarian Church, our religious exploration program draws from many sources and explores the shared UU principles of Justice, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Generosity, Interdependence. Love is at the center of everything. Religious Exploration begins in the Nursery and continues though childhood, young adulthood and all phases of maturity. We teach and learn from each other, guided by those who came before.

Visitors and Newcomers

First Unitarian welcomes visits from those who are discovering our Religious Exploration programs for children and youth!

Our Children’s Religious Exploration program curriculum is based on a monthly worship theme such as “Repair” or “Invitation” which the adults are also exploring in the Celebration of Life. During the summer months, we do fun activities like play games, build forts, cook, or make peace stones. Contact Loren Crawford, [email protected], for details about how to participate.

Our Adult Religious Exploration program covers topics that change weekly though we do occasionally have a series. Members, friends, visitors, curious people, and people lost in the building are all welcome. In particular, we recognize that churches have often not been safe and affirming places for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and have resolved to take actions such as this statement to make our welcome clear. In our Religious Exploration program, we wish to provide a welcoming environment to all children and youth, and to their families. This involves affirming both traditional and non-traditional families in all of their variety. We also strive to use curriculum resources that help our children and youth value diversity and strengthen them to stand against prejudice and discrimination.
