Hello Loved Ones:
As Earth Day nears, my thoughts continue to move toward the natural world. One of the most fundamental elements of nature is water.
We have been instructed to use water frequently these days, specifically as it concerns keeping our hands sanitized. Although I have never previously thought of it in these terms, hand washing can be a spiritual practice. We can intentionally experience this everyday process by meditating on how water is an avenue of interconnection for us. Just as COVID-19 is global in its effect, so is water universal in its life-giving benefits to us.
Perhaps when you turn on the water you can recall the words of the Buddhist monk and poet Thich Nhat Hanh:
Water flows high in the mountains
Water runs deep in the Earth.
Miraculously, water comes to us and sustains all life.
Whether we are experiencing water running out of a faucet or flowing down a waterfall, we have the opportunity to deepen our awareness of the sacred and Universal nature of this life-giving gift that connects every part of creation.
