MAM Memo 3/18/25

Dearest Members and Friends of First Unitarian Church of Louisville,

First, please read this entire message. In other words, don’t do what I do sometimes and glance through a document, missing the details. Then later saying, “I wish someone would have told me that was happening.”
Second, a sense a joy remains in my spirit for you all as you plan to welcome a new minister this summer. I look forward to sharing the pulpit with Rev. Liz Weber on June 8.
 

Third, as I mentioned in my last MAM MEMO, I will take some of my allotted vacation time in March from March 13 thru 27. I will also have time away in April. I’ll keep you posted. This time away will provide a break from my ministerial duties and travel cycle. More importantly, it will allow space for my own ministry search as I explore the possibilities for my future. Stay tuned.
 

Fourth, my last day in the pulpit, and my final farewell sermon, will be June 15.  After that, I will be off to Ministry Days and General Assembly and a week of moving. So June 15 will mark my last “working day” at First Unitarian Church of Louisville.
Five, since many of you will be gone in mid-June, I plan to have a party on May 18th after the service. We already have a Star Trek party planned for that day as an auction item. Now we are going to invite everyone. There will be food, activities and general hanging out as part of our process of moving toward my leave-taking.
No worries, auction purchase attendees will get a special door prize since they paid for a ticket.
 

Six, it is important for an Interim Minister to do a good goodbye with a
congregation. I will say more about that later. Actually, the good-bye process has already started. A few members contacted and met with me, knowing that my time will tend to fill up and be a bit more rushed in the last few months. These were simple wrapping-it-up conversations regarding my ministry here.

Seven, these are challenging times in our country but also times full of possibilities. For ourselves, our children, and our children’s children, take gentle care of yourselves.
