1. DEMOCRACY
On Sunday, I offered these words from writer, educator, and conservationist Terry Tempest-Williams:

“The human heart is the first home of democracy. It is where we embrace our questions. Can we be equitable? Can we be generous? Can we listen with our whole beings, not just our minds, and offer our attention rather than our opinions? And do we have enough resolve in our hearts to act courageously, relentlessly, without giving up—ever—trusting our fellow citizens to join with us in our determined pursuit of a living democracy?” 

So may it be.

I also mentioned a message I received from Roxanne Sturtevant (All Peoples Unitarian Universalist Church) about an event, “Light for our Democracy” which will take place TODAY at 6pm at the Americana Community Center on Southside Drive.

This local event is sponsored by the Kentucky League of Women Voters and sponsored nationally by National Organization for Women, Black Voters Matter, American Association of People with Disabilities, League of Women Voters and more.  The event material states,

Democracy is not just a system of government—it’s the power of the people. It begins with us, our voices, and our votes. At a time when democracy is under threat, we’re asking you – and folks across the country – to come together to defend it.

We the People are hosting a gathering in our community, in solidarity with people across the country, to be in reflection, action, and solidarity during the President’s address to Congress on March 4th.

This event will offer a peaceful and unified space to come together for the health of our democracy, the future of our nation, and the well-being of all its people. Please join us!

2. INVITATION AND INCLUSION
Workshop: Conversations on Trans Identity —
The Work Ahead and How to Support
10:30am to Noon:  Saturday, March 8th
in Upstairs Classroom, First Unitarian Church 
RSVP to Rev. Mary Ann by Friday March 7 at Noon. 
Join Rev. Christe Lunsford (they/them), First Unitarian’s own, for an open and thoughtful conversation about trans identity, the ongoing work for justice, and how we can offer meaningful support. We are living in a time of increasing erasure, where trans lives and voices are under threat—but resilience, solidarity, and truth-telling bend the moral arc toward justice. This workshop will provide space for learning, reflection, and dialogue, whether you are deepening your understanding, strengthening your advocacy, or exploring your own journey. Come with your questions, your curiosity, and your commitment to building a more inclusive and courageous world.
3. LIGHT OF TRUTH
Thousands Rallied in Support of Ukraine at Metro Hall on Sunday afternoon. In the spirit of “the light of truth” or as one First Unitarian Church member reminds us “Make Lying Wrong Again”, here I am standing with Director of Religious Exploration, Loren Crawford before the rally.  Also here is the chalice I created three years ago when Russia invaded Ukraine during a youth mentoring event.  My friend, Sylvia, helped me create this chalice.
4. LASTLY, MARCH 30th
We will have a new membership recognition on March 30 during the worship service. May we continue to grow our capacity to create community.
