A Message from Reverend Mary Ann Macklin

Companions Along the Way
Earlier in the month, our Opening Words came from our very own, FirstULou member Kathie Johnson.   Many of you commented on these words which say so much about this congregation, First Unitarian Church of Louisville.  Several of you asked for copies, and I know many of you wanted to hear or see it again. Thank you Kathie.

Why Do We Come Here?

Did you know that Monday March 25 is Tolkien Reading Day?  I didn’t. But I did notice it as a whimsical addition to this month’s calendar of Soul Matters; Soul Matters is a network of Unitarian Universalist congregations who, together, follow the same monthly themes for worship, religious education and small group ministry.

As noted on the Soul Matters website, we are “companions traveling a new journey each month.” That seems very Tolkien’sh in and of itself.

While Soul Matters did not provide any of Tolkien’s material, it did transform our March 24 service which will draw upon The Lord of the Rings as inspiration for this month’s theme, transformation.

The purpose of Tolkien Reading Day is to celebrate the readings of JRR (John Ronald Reuel) Tolkien, one of the noted original creators of high fantasy fiction, so there will also be a chance to sign up (15 minute spot) for a Lord of the Rings Readathon after the service. Check your Midweek Update for more information.

Not all who wander are lost.
Peace, Mary Ann
