Conversations on Trans Identity — The Work Ahead and How to Support

Join Rev. Christe Lunsford (they/them), First Unitarian’s own, for an open and thoughtful conversation about trans identity, the ongoing work for justice, and how we can offer meaningful support. We are living in a time of increasing erasure, where trans lives and voices are under threat—but resilience, solidarity, and truth-telling bend the moral arc toward justice.
This workshop will provide space for learning, reflection, and dialogue, whether you are deepening your understanding, strengthening your advocacy, or exploring your own journey. Come with your questions, your curiosity, and your commitment to building a more inclusive and courageous world.
New to UU – Stirring the Hornets’ Nest on March 16 and 23
Do you want to learn more about our religion? What does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist? Find out at our two-part series on Sunday mornings March 16th and March 23 from 9:45 to 10:45 in the church parlor.
- In session one, we will explore the history of UUism and some of the interesting facts about our activist tradition.
- In session two we’ll learn more about our Louisville church and explore opportunities for activism . We will also explore where each of us is in our continuing spiritual journey.
Childcare is available on both Sunday mornings and refreshments will be provided.

Game Night for a Worthy Cause

Brush up on your cards or your own favorite games and bring them, $10, and your preferred beverage to “Game Night at First U” on Saturday evening, March 15. We’ll offer some games—cards, corn hole, 50/50, and assorted board games.
There will be $2 pizza slices, ice, tea, lemonade and assorted snacks.
Cash proceeds benefit the Americana World Community Center. The longtime
Louisville nonprofit that supports refugees and immigrants says it is at risk of
closure if it doesn’t raise funds to stay open. “Federal policy changes have had ‘downstream effects’ on its operations, and it is now ‘facing an urgent financial crisis.’”

March 9 at 10am – CLOUT Pre-Rally Briefing
First U is a member of Citizens of Louisville Organized and United Together (CLOUT) which is an organization of local faith-based communities that uses people power to solve critical community problems in an annual cycle of action. March 10 is the annual rally at Congregation Adath Jeshurun (2401 Woodbourne Ave.). Doors open at 6 pm. We’ll learn ahead of the rally what CLOUT is doing, how it achieves success, and where each of us fits in to the solutions. |

March 16 at 10am – After the Chalice Dims – Member Reflections
Attendees will discuss what we do from Monday through Saturday to live our UU values and reflect on our actions to get better at what we do as UUs. We’ll learn what others do outside First U that are spiritually fulfilling, and you might recruit others to join your things, but we’re also going to answer these three questions: How did I show up? What did I learn or discover? What will I do to show up better the next time out? |

If you are interested in supporting RITI, but not up to pulling a shift at the shelter, there are two ways you can help:
- provide a monetary donation to support us buying food for meals. The monetary donation can be by check to First U, or on our online donation site, just be sure to specify it is for RITI.
- help prepare a meal. If interested in helping prepare a meal, contact the office for information.

LaCasita Center
La Casita Center provides support and empowerment based on the needs of the community, using a ground-up strategy to help the Latinx community access services and overcome barriers. Volunteers and donations of diapers, food and clothing are needed and welcomed. They are located near the church at 223 E. Magnolia Avenue, 40208. In Case of Bad Weather:
We have a professional crew that clears our parking lot, ramp, and steps. First U will notify local media if there are closings. Additionally, check on Facebook or email. If you have a friend that doesn’t regularly check such things, please pass on the word!
Bad Weather Office Policy: When JCPS cancels classes, the church office is also closed. When in doubt, please call first to make sure someone is available if you need in the building. (That’s a good idea, no matter the weather!) |
