Why did we come to First Unitarian Church? Why do we KEEP coming?

“I came because I needed connection. It was the early days of the pandemic; there were mass protests across the country that summer – including here in Louisville for Breonna Taylor – and I had just finished my first semester of nursing school. I was impressed by First Unitarian providing sanctuary to protesters. I wanted to connect with a church community that would do something like that. I also wanted to feel completely accepted as an Atheist who defines spirituality as connections: with other people, with other living creatures, and with the world at large.

I stayed because I feel like a part of the community. People know my name (it is helpful that everyone gets a name tags). In my short five years I was elected to the board, have helped with adult Religious Exploration, and planned for and attended potlucks, to name a few things. My husband and I were married in the beautiful sanctuary and the social hall. But, most of all, I have stayed because of the people. I continue to be inspired by the people who call this church home.”
