On Sunday February 11, historian Jennifer Lavery returns to the pulpit to read a Valentine’s letter of appreciation for the Unitarians and Quakers from First Unitarian Church who bravely confronted the slave power in the 19th century.  Jen’s letter will highlight

  1. The publication of an antislavery newspaper from 1848-1850
  2. The church’s response to an 1853 school shooting
  3. The participation of church member James Speed, Lincoln’s second attorney general, in passing the 13th Amendment.
