On Sunday February 11, historian Jennifer Lavery returns to the pulpit to read a Valentine’s letter of appreciation for the Unitarians and Quakers from First Unitarian Church who bravely confronted the slave power in the 19th century. Jen’s letter will highlight
- The publication of an antislavery newspaper from 1848-1850
- The church’s response to an 1853 school shooting
- The participation of church member James Speed, Lincoln’s second attorney general, in passing the 13th Amendment.
