Guest speaker Owen Fitzgerald brought us a refreshing exploration of Plato and Socrates, among others. He encourages us to ask ourselves what we truly want out of this life—and whether the answer would truly bring happiness. Or whether the pleasure of achievement will simply leak away.
Owen is a recent graduate of Kenyon College, where he majored in political science and Spanish and a minor in chemistry. He received commendation on the political theory portion of his Senior Exercise and was inducted into the Kenyon chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. Owen joined First U after reading about the benefits of belonging to a religious community as explained by 19th-century French political scientist and philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville. He will soon be relocating to Washington, D.C., and is currently seeking employment in the democratic and sustainable development fields.
