Guest speaker Owen Fitzgerald will be bringing us this service, including a refreshing exploration of Plato and Socrates, among others. This message is nothing new. It has been propagated by everyone from Plato to the Gautama Buddha to popular culture. It implores you to ask yourself what you truly want out of this life—and whether your answer will truly bring happiness. Or whether the pleasure of achievement will simply leak away. Join us for this intriguing dive into some very old ideas from a young person’s perspective.
Owen is a recent graduate of Kenyon College, where he majored in political science and Spanish and a minor in chemistry. He received commendation on the political theory portion of his Senior Exercise and was inducted into the Kenyon chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. Owen joined First U after reading about the benefits of belonging to a religious community as explained by 19th-century French political scientist and philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville. He will soon be relocating to Washington, D.C., and is currently seeking employment in the democratic and sustainable development fields.
