This project began in 2008 with the mission of doing our part to protect the environment by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide into the air. So far, First U has installed 14 panels on the roofs, generating nearly five percent of the electricity the church uses annually.
The project has also installed LED lights throughout the church; insulated the Heywood House basement, installed plastic on many of the windows and replaced two refrigerators and one freezer with more energy efficient models.
Contributions to the Project are always gratefully accepted to reduce the carbon imprint of the church by purchasing more solar panels. On average, it costs $1000 to purchase and install one solar panel. The Project’s work is never done! Project chair Joe Kremer and all the faithful church members who donate cans, assorted metals, money, and pie sale proceeds (Thank you, Women’s Alliance) care deeply about our church’s commitment to service and the environment.
