2026 Stewardship Pledge Drive March 1-31

We are in the final stretch! Our annual stewardship campaign concludes at the end of March, and we are feeling the momentum of a congregation truly dedicated to “Growing the Light.”

To date, 65 individuals and families have stepped forward, contributing $189,210.70 toward our goal. We are inspired by this generosity, but we still have a journey ahead of us to reach our goal of 150 pledges and $250,000.

There is a place for everyone in this goal:

• Participation is Power: Remember, not everyone needs to “row the boat” if you’re in a difficult season, a dollar can connect you to the mission. My (Tim’s) mother used to say, “Sometimes you have to plunk the plate” (hit it/“thump it” with a finger to make the sound of money going in!). Been there! … However, some can do more. No matter what, your pledge ensures you are “in the budget” and counted as a vital part of our future.
• The “Stretch” Gift: If you are in a position to increase your pledge or offer a “heavy lift” contribution, please know that your contribution helps us do more than just survive, it helps us thrive.

We are so close to the finish line. Let’s ensure First Unitarian can continue to be the active, involved, and loving community we all value.

Opportunity to Learn CPR

Have you always wanted to learn CPR but never got to it? Is your CPR certification expiring, or has expired? First U will be hosting classes to make sure you get the certification you want and need! Fill out this form in the Midweek Update or see Kristi Drehmel to let us know what dates are best for you. We can even get your class in after church!

Looking for Pride Day Volunteers

Join First U and All Peoples for Louisville’s annual Pride Day on June 20 and we need volunteers! People are needed to help with the Glitter Blessing Booth and the Pride Day Parade! You can help leading up to the event and/or the day. If you’re interested in fun times for a bright cause, please contact the office.

Soccer Pride Night

We are looking to see if there is any interest from our congregation in joining the Congregational Pride Night on May 29 for the yearly Soccer Pride Night hosted by the Racing Louisville FC. In order to get a head count, if you would like to attend, please contact the office.

Tone-Deaf Volunteers Needed – Thursdays During Choir Practice

As part of the ongoing effort to make First U more family-friendly, we need help on Thursday evenings during choir rehearsals from people willing to spend time with the children of parents, guardians and caregivers who are in our choir. We need two folks each time, but you don’t have to commit to doing this every week. Contact the office.

The I-65 Central Corridor Project 

This project will affect most of the downtown area, including First U. You’ve probably noticed that some of the ramps near the church to I-65 have closed. This is in preparation for the project that begins June 1. At that time, 65 will be closed in both directions at Jefferson St. downtown to I-264 (the Watterson). CLOUT, Citizens of Louisville Organized and United Together is one of First U’s major advocacy efforts in Louisville. As a member of CLOUT, First U works with 24 interfaith congregations (Protestant, Catholic, Jewish) to work for justice in Louisville.

There will be regular RE during the Celebration of Life on Easter morning, followed by treats and an Egg Hunt after the service.

We need your help to pull this off. Please contact Loren or see the Midweek Update for more information. In case of rain or bad weather, we’ll move the egg hunt indoors.

We will have an extended Coffee Hour after the service, but No Lunch.

It’s helpful if you RSVP for the Easter Egg Hunt. Contact Loren or click this link to sign up to attend and for the various tasks we need help with. Some things to sign up for include:

• Donate plastic eggs, candy and/or small items to put in the eggs
• Stuff eggs Sunday at 9:30am; or hide them shortly after the service.
• Supervisors needed: Egg stuffing/hiding, Food Setup, Cleanup and Prize Giving

Resolution on the Climate Crisis:

First Unitarian Church of Louisville acknowledges the imminent threat of the climate crisis to both human civilization and the other species with which we share the planet. We join with All Peoples and other UU churches to call on all members of our community to take action to reduce the threat and mitigate the consequences of the climate crisis.

Earth Month Activities

April is Earth Month at First Unitarian Church and a time we put our planet and its inhabitants front and center of our social justice efforts. The 7th Principle Team invites all to join in support of three Earth Centered action-oriented Sundays this April and a Sunday service in May.

• April 12 – Hyper-scale Data Centers and their impacts on community and our planet* 
• April 19 –Water Step – Provides water to communities impacted by a warming Earth
• April 26 – UUA Green Sanctuary – Aligning our church with UUA environmental stretch goals
• May 4 – Honoring Earth and all species

Children’s RE Contact: Loren  

This begins in the sanctuary at 11:00 with the Moment for Ages. They leave during the Song for the Children.

The Nursery: Tadpoles will be open for babies and pre-k  from 9:30am-12:15pm on Sundays. Registration Forms. Registration information is required for each child, including those in the nursery.

All are Welcome: Members, friends, visitors, curious people, and people lost in the building are all welcome.
Check-in begins at 9:45. Class meets in the Church Library at 10am.

Nixtamel Corn Festival

Join us at the Festival Del Maiz y Nixtamal (Nixtamal Corn Festival). You are invited to celebrate with everyone at a community festival honoring corn, a sacred food that has nourished our families for generations. This festival is a space to reconnect with our roots, share culture, and enjoy food, music, and community together. There will be one-of-a-kind pieces created by local artisans. This includes jewelry, bags made from recycled materials, home items, and more. Support a program that empowers local families through arts and crafts.
The event is FREE and open to all! We invite you to bring a priority need item to share if you are able. Dried black beans, white rice, and diapers size 3-7.

UU the Vote

will rise again in 2026, a very important election year. We will be writing postcards to get out the vote among traditionally under-represented voters in swing states, reminding folx of the important issues and values at stake. We hope that our first postcard campaign will be to get out the vote for the Virginia constitutional amendment to adopt a fair congressional district map — a vote that is currently being blocked by yet another court challenge! Once the Virginia Supreme Court rules (favorably, we expect), we will be writing postcards in the Social Hall after the service. You can also take cards home to write. Come check us out!
